Current Industry Hiring Trend: Behavioral Interviewing

What is behavioral interviewing? Behavioral interviewing is a screening process in which candidates are asked questions that elicit specific responses on past behavior. Many employers believe that candidates’ past actions are a good indicator of future performance. In 2015, 100% of On Demand Environmental’s clients utilized this interview technique in either a formal behavior interview process or informally through situational compliance questions.

Questions may include:

  1. Give an example of a problem you encountered at work and how you solved it.
  2. Tell us about a time your schedule was interrupted as a reporting deadline approached and how you reacted.
  3. Describe a situation where you disagreed on a compliance issue with co-workers and what actions you took.

Before your interview, review the job description of the role you are seeking and take notice of the job duties listed and qualifications, both required and preferred. Create a list of challenges you’ve faced that may relate to the job description and write down the steps you took to work through them. Events that required you to work with teams, manage short time frames, adapt to change, and showcase your communication skills are a good start with EHS hiring managers.

On Demand works specifically with EHS candidates. Let us evaluate your interview skills and prepare you to ace your next interview! Submit your resume online or call (866) 862-1399 to get started.
