Job Description

The Industrial Hygienist position requires Anticipation, Recognition, Evaluation, Prevention and Control of conditions which could result in illness, impaired health, or significant discomfort in the workplace.



Practical aspects of the job include, but are not limited to:


Conducting Risk Assessments Performing Risk Management

Identifying and Implementing Risk Mitigation, working with members of the SHE Team and the End User to create workable solutions and ensure effectiveness of controls

Conducting Qualitative Assessments to determine the need for Exposure Sampling Independent Execution of the Sampling Plan and Employee Initiated Requests for Sampling Biological Sampling (surface, air, liquids)

Chemical Sampling (surface, air, liquids)

Drug Product and Surrogate Sampling (surface, air, liquids) Noise Assessment and Control

Lighting Assessment

Indoor Air Quality Assessment Ventilation System Assessment

Determining Exposure Sampling Methods, executing to them, and verifying the accuracy and validity of the sampling and analysis results

Report Writing

Maintaining Legal Documentation of Sampling Communicating Sampling Results

Providing Coaching/Training on Exposure Risks and Controls

Assisting with Exposure Control Design for all new construction and renovation projects Establishing Exposure Controls/Exposure Elimination for New and Existing Materials Establishing and Auditing Controls for Potent Compound Handling

Management of Industrial Hygiene Equipment (Calibration/Service) and Supplies (Purchase)



Required Qualifications:

  • BA/BS in Industrial Hygiene, Environmental Health or related Industrial Hygiene/Occupational Health discipline.
  • Minimum 3 years independently performing Industrial Hygiene Risk Assessments, Exposure Monitoring, and Investigations, Suggesting and Establishing Exposure Controls, Utilizing and Maintaining IH Sampling and Analysis Equipment, Completing Technical Reports, and Maintaining Legal Documentation for all IH Related Activities.
  • US Citizen (Homeland Security Requirement)
  • Ability to work as part of a team, involving them as part of the decision making for risk reduction activities
  • Strong Technical Writing Capabilities
  • Basic Legal Documentation Skills
  • Ability to Multitask, Track Projects, and Successfully Follow Up on Open Tasks
  • Ability to Take Direction/Follow Direction/Be Trusted to Work Independently
  • Strong Communication Skills
  • Strong Investigation Skills with Significant Experience
  • Ability to wear a respirator and protective clothing, climb a ladder, and lift and carry up to 40 pounds, occasionally
  • Ability to visually inspect work areas, assess conditions of use, and use Industrial Hygiene related sampling equipment




Preferred  Qualifications:

  • Training on and Experience with Potent Compounds
  • Experience designing and troubleshooting exposure control systems (fume hoods, gloveboxes, BSCs, and other)
  • Strong Customer Service Skills
  • Experience in a Pharmaceutical R&D Environment
  • Experience with Biohazards and Animal Research and Testing
  • Experience in Designing New Laboratory and Production Facilities
  • Experience Teaching or Speaking to a Large Group

Certified Industrial Hygienist (CIH), Certified Safety Professional (CSP), or multiple years’ experience managing an Industrial Hygiene Program
